I was told that the above service provider has offline. They were one of the few who has implemented Satellite Broadband services here in Malaysia and all of the sudden, it went offline just like that. There were no news from Smart Malaysia web site and the web site is still advertising the sales of the services. News from KL is that they went bust.

Their website is http://www.smartmalaysia.com

My notebook was rooted! Some pictures my brother has sent to me contains a rootkit that send out SMTP packages all over the world. Good things is that I have myself an IDS which prevents that. Trying to remove the rootkit now and see how it goes.

Its not linux, Its not Mac, Its ReactOS. Give it a try. I can run quite a good numbers of applications and though its still in the infancy, it can really replace certain part of the computing society as a free alternative OS to Windows XP and yet compatible with Windows XP.

I have recently tested a Windows XP/Mac OS replacement Operating system called Good OS. At first glance the interface seems simple. There is no complicated pull down menu to play with and everything an Internet PC needed seems to be right there on the desktop. To my surprise, The OS is folly loaded at 1.6 GB with all the standard office suite (open office 2.3) installed.

Thought I installed it on the PIII system, it outperform my Centrino Notebook by a lengthful. Riding on Ubuntu Linux, Its fast and reliable. With the ability to play DVD-9 on a Pentium III 800, I was surprise at the smooth graphic it can produce. However, if you use a USB mouse, it seems to be stuck. Have yet to figure out why. The installation is painless as there is only 8 questions asked during set up as compare to the old Windows XP of 14. All Languages are installed by default and timezone are set automatically. All these is done on a Live-CD!.

A lot of things drives technologies and the trend now is going back to basic.  It all started off with OLPC project trying to achieve making a laptop at a selling price of USD 100 (RM 330). This has trigger a lot of other technology company to come up with lesser and smaller basic needs of PC such as the infamous Asus eeePC which came in at a entry price of USD 399 (RM 1,317 – Selling price in Malaysia is RM 1399) , TwinHead comes in and produce the E10 which come in slightly more expensive than the eeePC. This also follows Microsoft jumping into the bandwagon by extending the support for Windows XP for these PC. HP also follow ensue with the introduction of their HP Mini-note 2133 The latest we see last week at Taiwan are Acer Aspire One and Dell Inspiron Mini. in between all these there is also the MSI U100 which hide itself along the way. All these are way behind the pioneer in UMPC – OQO. The non-competing player is non other than Sony with their VAIO.

A Cloud comparison of all the subnotebook as it is called is available at wikipedia.

With the blooming of the 3G Internet services, Computing is getting more portable.

I wish I can have my hand on some of the UMPC to test and write some review for it.
