I have recently installed a very trimmed down version of Windows XP. It still have all the work station functionalities except for the ability to install new software. With only 7 services running and 60MB of RAM usage, it is as slim as it can be. Being the fact that it can still browser internet, download things via limewire, and run my pidgin IM with no problem. Haven’t had any Antivirus running as there is no VBS support on the XP. Adding an Antivirus, total RAM usage is 78MB.

Now let see how slip it can be.
